THE LIFE AND WORK OF SALVADOR DALI
It is almost as surreal as the man himself, but the fact is that the biggest selection of Salvador Dalí artwork outside of Europe is located a two hour drive Southwest of Orlando in the beach town of St. Petersburg on the Gulf Coast of Florida. The permanent collection holds more than 2000 original pieces by Dalí, among these 7 of 18 “masterwork” paintings meaning a painting measuring at least 5 feet (1.5 m) in any direction, and have been worked on for over a year. The collection was established by husband and wife Reynolds and Eleanor Morse from Cleveland, Ohio. In 1982 they moved their collection to St. Petersburg and in 2011 a new 30 million dollar museum building was opened to the public. It is worth the trip.
